Submit a Paper
Our call for papers is currently OPEN, and will close on May 15th, 2026. Papers selected for publication in the current round will be included in vol. 3, due for release in 2026.
Accepted Paper Formats
We welcome a diverse range of papers that intersect any aspect of ancient world studies, such as archaeology, ancient history, and Classics-based research. This might include:
– Essays written for relevant undergraduate and Honours courses at the University of Melbourne;
– Independent research;
– Archaeological articles/papers;
– Egyptology articles/papers;
– Philology articles/papers;
– Near Eastern (History/archaeology) articles/papers;
– Roman History (Republic, Empire, Late Antiquity) articles/papers.
The Kylix editorial team have chosen to streamline the submissions for vol. 3. To that end, we have chosen to no longer accept museum reviews or archaeological field reports. However, we strongly encourage any and all who intended to submit such a piece of work, or any who would be interested in sharing their experiences with a particular museum or excavation/field project, to publish with the SHAPS Forum (https://blogs.unimelb.edu.au/shaps-research/).
Kylix Style Guide
Prior to submitting your manuscript, please ensure it adheres to our style guide: KYLIX STYLE GUIDE.pdf. Papers that do not meet the style requirements will be promptly sent back to authors, who will be requested to amend their work prior to re-submission.
Once we receive your manuscript, it will be reviewed by our Editors, who will determine if the paper will be accepted and published with either minor, or major, revisions. From this point, our peer review team will revise the selected manuscripts and assist with editorial advice, in order to ensure that papers are of a publishable, academic standard. As a journal dedicated to undergraduates, our aim is to offer mentorship and guidance throughout the publication process, and to prepare students for submitting their work to larger publishers. While having your paper reviewed may seem daunting, please rest assured that our friendly team will foster a non-intimidating environment in which your ideas will be valued, explored, and fully articulated.
If you have any further questions, or wish to check the suitability of your work prior to submission, please feel free to email us at journalkylix@gmail.com.
